Present
The original EcoDESS project about roads and disease ended in 2013.
Beginning around 2017, the EcoDESS research platform transitioned into new research areas, still keeping focus on impacts of remoteness along a rural-urban gradient.
EcoDESS is currently centered on four main projects:
Dengue — A regional study of vector-borne arbovirus transmission in remote settings.
EcoMID — A birth cohort study that is examining the interaction between the microbiome and enteric disease in children under 2.
EcoZONT — A zoonotic transmission study on uropathogenic E. coli.
EcoCORAZON —A community intervention to reduce stress and enhance resilience among women.

BORBON OVER TIME...
Since 1996 when Borbón was connected by road to the coast, resources like electricity were brought to the region. This generated a tremendous amount of social and environmental change. Development and access to these resources remain unequal across the region.
